The owners of a Crow Wing County coffee shop identified as Iron Waffle Coffee Company in Ramsey County Court papers that made headlines for defying shutdown orders are taking the revolt national by creating a countrywide directory of officials responsible for infringing on the rights of local businesses.
On September 14, 2021, Assistant Minnesota Attorney General Kaitrin Vohs secured a $120,000 fine against Iron Waffle in an effort described as “discontinuing” its ability to remain open.
According to her contempt hearing statements, Vohs abused Iron Waffle and its owner by misrepresenting the notice requirements. Vohs was captured saying that Iron Waffle “endangered the public health” of Minnesota residents by remaining open but failed to cite a single case of COVID that originated as a result of the alleged conduct. At one point, Vohs began taunting Iron Waffle by screaming the fine was “high for a reason!”
According to witnesses, It paints a chilling picture of Vohs initial cases in prosecuting shut down orders. The witness statements recount behind-the-scenes moments of an Attorney General’s office unhinged and explosive, yelling at Minnesota residents as the office desperately sought to cling to power in the state.
Iron Waffle attorneys contend that Vohs overstepped her authority and took extraordinary power on behalf of the state by acting in bad faith to nullify an appeal of the original lawsuit that would have allowed Iron Waffle to seek judicial review with an emphasis on the constitutionality of the original Order. Instead, Vohs blunted due process by imposing licensure suspension and high civil fines.
In other words, Vohs seeks to ruin and destroy the livelihoods of Minnesota Residents. Vohs is a danger to public health.
